Furthermore, article 5.3 of the aforementioned Law 4/2014 of April 1, provides, among the functions of the chambers of commerce, the performance of mediation activities.

This is why, in compliance with this legal mandate, in June 2020, the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Navigation of Spain created the Spanish Mediation Center [“CEM”], with the aim of promoting the culture of mediation between the different economic and legal operators and thus respond to the growing business demand in the field of civil and commercial mediation.

The Spanish Mediation Center was born with the aim of improving and expanding the services that the chambers of commerce offer to the Spanish business community to contribute to the improvement of its competitiveness and to contribute to the general well-being of society as a whole. Both its organization and activity are aimed at providing users, and in particular companies, an excellent mediation service that offers an effective alternative to the judicial process and arbitration.

For the proper fulfillment of our commitments, we have internal regulations that allow us to guarantee the full independence of our bodies when making the decisions that the proper development of the mediation procedure requires, particularly in matters of appointment of mediators, as well as the necessary transparency, impartiality, and professionalism in the provision of our services.
